The students worked closely with their classroom teachers and ATA Artist Teacher Mitchell Howard to depict the important events throughout California History on the wonderful outdoor mural created by the Hamilton School Fourth Grade Students.

Students use their understanding of social studies concepts and skills to explore the state of California in the past and present. Students learn about the state’s unique geography and key eras in early California State history, particularly the Missions and Gold Rush periods. They use this historical perspective to help them make sense of the state’s geography, economy, and government today.

Artists Teaching Art was contacted by the The Chamber of Commerce Leadership Novato Team: Nancy Weber, Tamara Ressler, Cheryl Carlson, Jay Demski, Zita Konik, Linda Meckel, and Christina Niles to partner with them on a community project that had to be completed by May of 2015 in order for the team to graduate as community leaders.

The Hamilton Meadow Park school in Novato was chosen for the project and "The Legacy of Art, the Beautification of the Hamilton School Past, Present and Future" has begun. The initial phase of the project which included three large scale murals on the school campus were all completed by the Hamilton School 4th and 5th grade students.
